I know a lot of people dress around certain pieces whether that’s a great top or bottom or outerwear. Some people like to highlight their accessories and tone everything else down. I, dear readers am a shoe gal. I am THEE shoe gal. I love shoes and 90% off the time I build my outfit around my footwear. I’ve spent the last 7 years building the shoedrobe of my dreams. I’ve stood in the snow on the coldest day of the year (seriously it was like negative 20 degrees) for these Brian Atwood beauties. I’ve gotten on my hands and knees to dig in boxes of shoes at sample sales and stalked shoes from the time the hit the runway until the time they went on sale (about 6 months time). Shoes are where it’s at for me. I can get bigger or smaller and not be able to fit my clothes, but for the most part my feet will always be…huge.

GET THE LOOK
There’s 5 pair of shoes that can round out your wardrobe for the whole year.
The Classic Pump
A great classic pump never goes out of style. It just gets remade over and over with a twist. I invested in a pair of YSL Opyum pumps years ago and they still do me justice till this day. Investing in a classic pump is well worth it as they go with everything and instantly elevate a look (even a pair of stirrup denim jeans). They are also the perfect shoes for an occasion.
The Strappy Sandal
This sandal goes a long way. It’s perfect for Spring and Summer and works well into fall with a pair of cool socks like these from Gucci or a more budget friendly version like these from HUE.
The Ankle Boot
I’m a sucker for a good boot. I just bought these in white (Fall’s hottest boot color) and these red babies from ASOS. The ankle boot goes perfectly with the tapered denim trend right now. Just a sliver of ankle brings all the boys to the yard (in winter anyway when there’s nothing else to show).
The Over the Knee Boot
Have your Pretty Woman moment minus the sluttiness. The Over the Knee and Thigh High Boot are now trendy, edgy and yet chic. I’m loving these from & Other Stories. Rock your leather and quilted mini skirts well into Winter.
The Fashion Sneaker
Because sometimes you just need a flat, a comfortable stylish flat that you can run in, two hop down a flight of stairs and catch the train in. They also work well in the rain and are now a trendy way to sporty up a skirt or dress.
The Mule
Throwing this one in for good measure because..well MULES RULE. It’s my favorite of all the shoes. They are comfortable and usually have a very thick heel, so score for being able to actually walk from your home to the train in them. I just scored these babies from the Tibi Online Sample Sale.
How do you put your outfits together? Do you center them around a piece and if so what piece?
I’d love to know.

I got a gorgeous pair of mules recently but their peep toed ones, any idea of how to wear these with socks or tights and still look good? Thanks

Nice! I love mules, most of mine are peep toe as well. I usually just wear them with jeans or skirts. I”ll stick rock them well into the Fall and for Winter I like a sheer sock (usually in black or brown). Sheer socks are so cool and HUE has a few on their website for under $15. Defitniely check them out.
