Denim Desert Wanderlust

IMG_9842

It’s getting up to 55+ degrees today in New York City. Yes, I’m convinced the world is coming to an end any moment. But before it does, I’m breaking out one of my favorite denim dresses and my toes. Who knows how long it will before I can do this again. Even though that groundhog said we only have a few more weeks of Winter left, I can’t be too sure. I guess it’s that New York skepticism that’s been embedded in my psyche over the last 10 years of living here. It’s definitely time for another vacation.

I used to never wear jeans. I actually hated the confining feeling of jeans, until boyfriend jeans became a thing. I only wore them when I had to which was in the Fall and Winter. Now I still only rotate about a handful of jeans, but overall my denim collection has expanded dramatically over the last 2 years. I actually just dropped a few bucks on a new pair of Rachel Comey wideleg jeans I’ve been coveting along with a pair of old school Levi 501 jeans, and a denim pencil skirt that I scored for $15 at Forever 21. I guess my new obsession with denim has a lot to do with a vacation I’m planning to Palm Springs. I have always had the urge to visit the desert as well as California. My “it’s time to go” meter has been on high the last few weeks. I get this pull to a place and I just have to go. So I’ve started planning and consciously buying things to wear while I’m there. This feeling I get, I guess its what people describe as wanderlust. I got the same feeling before I traveled to Barcelona, and Paris, and Italy and Mexico. I even got it before I moved to New York. I felt like it was where I had to be.

When traveling I always like to stay in the least tourist spot possible. When abroad I’ve mostly only stayed at Airbnbs or private vacation rentals. I get my tips from the locals and enjoy immersing myself in the culture versus having everything handed to me on a silver tourist plater. I like very small hotels, I’m talking 15 rooms or less. I can do without most amenities like Wifi or television and this trip to the desert won’t be any different. I’m obsessed with the idea of driving on a long highway with nothing in sight but windmills or Joshua Trees. I plan on stopping off to visit the Sanctuary Adventist Church (The church from Kill Bill), stopping off at Hadley’s Fruit Orchard for some trail mix (I have a thing for trail mix), and discovering all Joshua Tree National Park and Palm Springs has to offer. This dress and these shoes are perfect for the trip along with a bunch of other modern boho looks I plan on purchasing to traipse around in the dust in. I’m most excited for seeing the stars at night in front of a bon fire. Desert Life….I’m coming for you, until then, 55+ degrees in February will do New York.

xx

LOVE this! The top reminds me of this designer Ashley Rowe I saw when I was in the desert of Texas!

    Have fun in Joshua Tree!
