I’ve spent about 2 years refining my makeup routine to include as many Black Owned as well as clean makeup and body care products as possible. I honestly think it’s one of the things I’ve done that’s been beneficial to clearing up my skin. The products below are my go-to products for my everyday makeup look and to get the best glowing, supple and soft smelling skin for summer! SKIN PREPARATION BEFORE MAKEUP
I always start my everyday makeup routine with a bit of skin preparation. I gently cleanse my face to rid it of excess oils so I have a clean palette to work with. I’m also naturally oily and this helps to remove excess sebum that could decrease the life of my makeup. I then moisturize with Youth to the People AirWhip Moisture Cream or Clinique Moisture Surge and then prime my face with Bobby Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base Primer or Laura Mercier Blurring Pure Canvas Primer (love this for a filter-like makeup look).
MY EVERYDAY MAKEUP ROUTINE
After my skin preparation it’s time for get started with makeup. When I’m having a pretty chill day and I’m just running errands and want to look polished I prefer to wear a skin tint over foundation, which is a little lighter and overall better for the skin. Beautycounter Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer is my go to has light sheer dewy coverage. I usually get shade 6 for winter and 7 for Summer. It goes on seamlessly and seeps into the skin. It’s also a clean skin tint with SPF 20 and Black Current Seed oil and Vitamin C to help brighten and even skin tone. Because this can be less of a matte look, I will sometimes lightly go over my face with Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder in Medium Deep to seal it. When I’m going to be filming or heading out for an event and need more of a long wear makeup day, I go for the Beautycounter Skin Twin Featherweight Foundation which has hyaluronic acid to plump and smooth skin. After my foundation, I got in and fill in my brows with Sephora Brow Pencil in Granite. I then do my under eye concealer with Laura Mercier Longwear Concealer in color 4N or Rose Inc Concealer (which is clean). I also use the Laura Mercier Longwear Concealer in 4N to clean up my eyebrows. I then set the under eye concealer with Laura Mercer Translucent Powder for a natural look or with Huda Beauty Loose Baking & Setting Powder for a more bright/glam under eye. After I do my eyes, which I detail below, I finish off with contouring and blush. My favorite contour is LYS No Limits Cream Bronzer and Contour Stick which is Black Owned as well as clean. I use the Fenty Beauty Match Stix Matte Contour Stick in Espresso to contour my nose since it’s more precise. I end with a little blush from Makeup Forever Longwear Blush in Limitless Berry. Finally I set the makeup look with Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray.
LET’S GET INTO THE EYES
In addition to using the Sephora Brow Pencil and Laura Mercier Concealer to clean up my eyebrows, I have quite a few go-to products to get the perfect everyday eye. I almost always start with my cat-eye which I personally love. I already have almond shape eyes and a small cat eye just adds a little more drama and length to my eye. For my cat eye I use Makeup by Mario Master Mattes Liquid Eyeliner which goes on super smooth and with precise control. For eyeshadow I always use a deep natural brown for my everyday look from the Dior Backstage Eye Palette or the Makeup By Mario Master Mattes Palette. For eyeliner, my current favorite is Makeup By Mario Master Pigment Pro Eyeliner. It’s super black and lasts all day. To finish off my eyes I use L’Oreal Panorama Mascara on my top lashes and Benefits Cosmetics They’re Real Mascara for my lower lashes.
LUSCIOUS LIPS
There is only one chapstick that I wear every single day of my life and it’s Chapstick Moisturizer with SPF 15. It’s my go to base for any lip gloss or lipstick or even when I’m having a no makeup day. I love that it’s super moisturizing, very affordable and has SPF especially when I’m in Miami on my bike rides. Your lips need SPF too y’all! I have a few favorite lip glosses as well. I like a thick, natural, juicy gloss that lasts all day and Dior Lipglow Oil in Rosewood is my everyday favorite followed closely by Rhode Lip Treatment in Salted Caramel. When it comes to lipstick, I’m a liquid matte lipstick girlie and Fenty Icon Velvet Matte Lipsticks in HBIC, MVP & Bread Winn’R are my favorites and last all day without re-application. I find that they don’t bleed on me and I never have to line my lips before use.
SHOWER & BODY CARE FAVORITES
When it comes to showering and caring for the skin of my body, I am pretty invested in putting things on my body that are as clean as possible. My go-to for body cleanser is Youth to the People Superfood + Niacinamide Body Cleanser. It’s clean and smells absolutely invigorating with Cedarwood and Black Pepper. I also really love the Byredo Bal D’Afrique Shower Gel and L’Occitane Almond Shower Oil for their stay all day subtle fragrance on the skin. If I’m doing an everything shower day, I shave using the Flamingo Foaming Shave Gel to get a close shave that’s super moisturizing. When it comes to Body creams and lotions I have so many that I love for different reasons so I’m going to share them all! For body creams I have 3 go-to products starting with L’Occitane Ultra Rich Body Cream. It’s super moisturizing and I love the clean almost milky fresh smell. It’s perfect for getting the moisture back in your skin after a hot shower. Next up is the Koba Whipped Body Cream which is Black Owned and clean. It melts into your skin and leaves you super soft and hydrated. Finally is my current favorite is the Youth to the People Hydrate + Glow Dream Body Butter which is clean and gives you a beautiful vacation ready glow. When it comes to lotion, my tried and true is Kiehls Creme De Corps. It makes my legs shine and glisten. Although it doesn’t have a smell it’s the best lotion in the entire world and really gets rid of any ashiness.
EXTRA BODY CARE & GLOW
For the days when I don’t wear makeup I always make sure to put on some Supergroop Unseen Sunscreen for my face. It’s one of the only SPF’s that doesn’t break me out. When I want a little extra shimmer and summer glow I reach for my Dior Solar Body Oil or Baccarat Rouge 540 Sparking Body Oil. Sometimes, I want a beautiful scented lotion, that’s not very moisturizing but smells great on top of my Kiehls Creme De Corps Lotion. My two favorites are the Byredo Bal D’Afrique Body Lotion and the Le Labo Miami Edition Hotel Body Lotion. It’s such a gorgeous scent and reminds me of my super relaxing staycation at the Miami Edition Hotel every time I wear it. When it comes to my feet, Koba Foot Cream is my favorite to keep my feet smooth and soft. For my hands, which are always pretty rough because I wash them so frequently, I love L’Occitane Handcream. It’s super moisturizing and smells incredible.
