My 6 Favorite Face Masks for Breakouts, Dry Skin and Large Pores

There are definitely amazing perks of being a blogger and I am forever grateful for those perks. They include receiving a huge number of skincare products on a monthly basis by different brands. I was never really into makeup or skincare until my late 20’s. I know that’s pretty awful, I wish I’d started taking care of my skin a lot sooner. The best thing I ever did for my skin though that helped immensely with my cystic acne was to stop drinking milk, cut back on processed sugar and start drinking more water. That alone did wonders but I still get hormonal acne around my period as well as stress acne. I also have very large pores on my cheeks which are hereditary. In addition to that I suffer from seborrheic dermatitis, a flaking of the skin around my nose, eyebrows and hairline that coincides with season changes. When that dead skin is exfoliated it exposes bright pink skin underneath. It’s an understatement to say that my skin is super sensitive but over the last year, I have found and tested a few face masks that help to address all my skin issues. These are the masks I’ve used that I worked for me. Please consult your physician or dermatologist before starting any new facial routine and/or products if you have serious skin issues.

CONTROLLING BREAKOUTS

When New York Fashion Week was in full force and I was on the go, I relied on 2 products to keep my breakouts in check: The Kiehls Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque and Elemis Superfood Vital Veggie Mask. I love using Kiehls Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque as an overnight spot treatment, after cleansing and toning my face. It will dry a juicy pimple up overnight without drying up the skin around it too much. It also has a very calming affect on cystic inflamed pimples as well. I like the new Elemis Superfood Vital Veggie Mask when my skin is freaking out from hormonal acne around my menstrual cycle. It’s formulated with Avocado, Broccoli Seed Oils, Omega Fatty Acids and Vitamin C and Passion Fruit Acids to brighten complexion. It works wonders in 10 minutes flat.

MY NIGHTTIME ROUTINE:

  1. Eye and Lip Makeup Removal with Elemis White Flower Lip and Eye Makeup Remover
  2. Elemis Cleanser (in shower)
  3. Toning with Elemis Lavender Balancing Toner
  4. Elemis Peptide 4 Night Recovery Cream Oil
  5. Kiehls Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque Spot Treatment for Breakouts

DRY SKIN

I tend to bounce between hella oily skin in summer and super dry skin in winter especially around my nose and forehead. When I feel like I need an injection of moisture and to truly indulge my skin I reach for Kiehls Ultra Facial Overnight Hydrating Masque. I once had a waitress with the most incredible dewy glowing skin and she told me about this mask and how she’d put it in the freezer for 1 hour and then apply it right before bed. Well I do the exact same thing. It goes on like a silky gel and soaks into your skin. When you wake up in the morning your skin looks and feels as if you were just born yesterday.

When I don’t have the time luxuriate my skin overnight but need a quick injection of hydration that leaves my skin supple I reach for Farmacy Honey Potion renewing antioxidant hydration mask with echinacea honey. I love this mask for 2 reasons: it gently warms up as its activated providing a little sauna for your face and because it leaves my skin super supple and dewy after just 10 minutes. Last but not least is the Fresh Rose Face Mask. The light rose scent is decadent and the the cucumber extract and aloe vera gel help soothe the skin with a lovely cooling effect. The green tea helps to brighten and protect the skin too.

LARGE PORES

I have large pores on my cheeks. The older I’ve gotten the more prominent they are. It’s actually hereditary and runs in my family. My mother and my brother both have large pores as well. There is one main product that has drastically helped minimize my large pores my all time favorite Elemis Peptide 4 Night Recovery Cream-Oil. I put my Elemis Peptide 4 Night Recovery Cream Oil every night before bed and in the morning my pores are practically non-existent. It also hydrates my skin and brightens my complexion. The Elemis Superfood Berry Boost Mask Mattifying Prebiotic Face Mask also does wonders for large pores.

So I found your instagram this morning and have now jumped down the rabbit hole of reading your posts. You have NO IDEA how on time this was. I have sebhorriac dermatitis as well and am currently really struggling with the flaking in my brows and hairline. Nothing seems to be working at all. I’m definitely going to try both the masks that you mentioned. I can’t wait to find more skin care tips from you. It’s hard to find information from black woman regarding skin care and sebhorrhiac dermatitis. Thanks so much.

Thanks so much! Try 100% Aloe Vera Juice Mixed with Water and spray it on your face every morning and night. That helps a lot too.
