Where to Stay in Marrakech — El Fenn & La Mamounia

IMG_0906 IMG_2184 IMG_0851

I didn’t have the opportunity to stay at El Fenn or La Mamounia but fortunately I did get to check out both hotels and the grounds. You can easily miss the grand doorway leading into the rich and colorful interiors of El Fenn if you’re not hyper aware of your surroundings. It’s off a main road on a tiny side street that you can easily mistake for a sketchy road. But once you are in front of the doors and ring the buzzer and the wooden doors swing open, you’re on your way to a wonderful time.

Out of the larger hotels we visited El Fenn was my favorite. Because although it’s bigger, it still maintains it’s Moroccan feel and charm. El Fenn, hosted us for a lovely coursed lunch and it was hands down the best food I had during my entire stay in Morocco. The service was impeccable and we had free range of the place for a few hours. We spent time ambling the grounds which had numerous courtyards with plush velvet purple and yellow couches. The space was airy and quiet and at every turn there was a nook to explore. In 2002 El

Fenn was bought and saved from ruin by Vanessa Branson and after a 2 year renovation the doors opened in 2004. El Fenn has 28 uniquely styled rooms, a huge rooftop terrace with restaurant and pool as well as a another pool on the ground floor. It is also home to a family of tortoises, one of whom I met in the outside courtyard. El Fenn also has a beautiful spa, a library and a boutique selling everything from clothing to books and Moroccan souvenirs. El Fenn was a visual delight and I thoroughly enjoyed the few hours I spent there. On my next stay I will definitely book their hammam spa package. Learn more about El Fenn here.

La Mamounia has to be the most talked about and possibly the most instagramed courtyard in all of Marrakech. Hannah Bronfman recently had her nuptials there. When driving up the round bend to the door of La Mamounia you feel as if you’re about to enter a palatial palace and that’s just what it is. La Mamounia is pure decadence and luxuriousness. The gardens are lush and the trees ripe with fruit. The hallways are plush with heavy carpeting and the air smells of deep mysterious sweetness.

Thanks to La Mamounia we had a day pass and were able to peruse the entire property and indulge in the pool, gym and jacuzzi. Prince Al Mamoun received the garden of the property as a wedding gift in the 18th century and in 1923 hotel La Mamounia opened it’s heavy and beautiful doors. La Mamounia also has several boutiques from Dior to La Mamounia’s own boutique. For around $60 you can buy a day pass to La Mamounia and indulge in the pool, spa and fitness center. The indoor pool and jacuzzi is worth the trip alone as well as the beautifully tiled courtyards. Learn more about La Mamounia here.

A special thank you to El Fenn for an amazing lunch and tour of the facilities as well as La Mamounia for providing us with a day pass to experience all La Mamounia has to offer.

Awesome pics! At this very moment I’m trying to convince my boyfriend to go to Morocco for Christmas.
