IFB Conference Fashion Frenzy

The IFB Conference was everything I knew it would be: Chiffon, Stilettos, Capes and Hats…and let’s not forget all the great blogger advice. I got there early enough to secure a prime seat in the 3rd row. Yay me! The 1st panel discussion: Who owes your blog content, was very informative. I just got my site copyrighted and the panel spoke a lot about copyrighting your content and trademarking your catch phrases and blog title. As I took copious amounts of notes I realized I have a load of work to do! So I’m on it like white on rice and you will see a few tweaks here and there soon.
The first panel featured my favorite and one of the first blogs I started reading, Karen from Where did u get that. I took a photo with her and almost peed my pants I was so nervous. I think I even hugged her without permission. Yes…my first blogger star-struck experience. Not to mention her adorable London accent! This was the highlight of the IFB Conference for me! She’s is rocking the sequins off this dress…ahhh…me and my love for sparkly fashion blogger icons.
So here’s a few photos or the panels!
Panel 1: Who owns your blog content?

Panel(Left to right): Karen from Where did u get that, Geri from because i’m addicted, Leandra from Man Repeller, Richard from Tumblr, Evelyn from mtv.com and moderating was Eddie Newton from Mr. Newton.
Mr. Newton was an excellent moderator and asked some really great questions. I learned a lot about owning my content. Leandra was also hella funny. She is a “keeping it real” kinda chick and I love that about her!
Panel 2: The business of blogging
Panel:(From left to right): Caitlin from Gucci, Tony Wang from Postfashionism, Gregory from Halogen Network, Pierra from Refinery29, Craig from altamiranyc and moderating was Vahni from Grit and Glamour.

Tony Wang had such great advice about really working with brands that you like and that preserve the integrity of your blog. Inspiring words from a seasoned blogger.
Panel 3: Working with brands gracefully
Panel: (From left to right): Kristin from the clothes whisperer, Rebecca from Clothes Horse, Lindsey from Saucy Glossie, Sasha from liberty london girl, Rachna from KCD and moderating was Kristina from pretty shiny sparkly.
This panel was very insightful especially Rachna Shah from KCD. She spoke about what brands are looking for which is a variety of things. Main takeway point for me was to just be true to yourself and what you want out of your blog. Don’t sacrifice the integrity of your blog for money or for anything else.
Panel 4: The rise of the professional blogger
Panel:(From left to right) Chiara from Blonde Salad, Josh from CoolHunting, Wendy from nitro:licious, Karen from DBA, Faran from Nylon, Yvan from Face Hunter and Karla from Karla’s Closet, Moderation was done by John from Textbook.
The most humble of them all was Karla and Chiara. They are just really sweet and confident women. Karen from DBA had the best advice and killer heels. I actually met her in the bathroom over the lack of reception (for digital devices) and the lack of plugs (to power up those devices). There was actually one lone plug in the bathroom being highjacked by bloggers every moment. Phones were dying left and right from massive amounts of tweeting, texting and facebook updates. Oh back to Karen…she is stared this awesome company pairing bloggers with brands. You all have to check her out. She is the real deal!
Lastly…the GRAND FINALE!!!
Drumroll please……….
Proenza Schouler

Super humble, super nice and great advice…not to mention…easy on the eyes..lol.
They really love what they do and you can see it not only in their work but how they carry themselves and how they talk about their brand. They also get some of their inspiration from street style (blogs) which is pretty cool.
Overall, this was an awesome event. I met so many cool people and I’m just really lucky to have been able to go to IFB. I had to work 22 hours in 2 days to get the day off so I could go but I just had to do it. I learned a lot  and walked away with tons of information to protect my blog, expand my blog, work with brands and just have fun with my blog.

Key Points
Trademark your Blog/Title/Catch phrases
Copyright your content (photos and written) but still make it accessible so that you reach more people
Stay true to yourself when working with brands or advertising, don’t just take any old thing, keep the integrity of your blog and don’t lose your voice for money because your followers will know!
Its never too early to start contacting your favorite brands to work with them
Never ask for anything (money or gifts) when reaching out for brands you want to work with
Send Press Kits to the brands you want to work with and show them what you are about and your statistics
Statistics aren’t everything but brands do look at that along with your influence on your followers
Content is becoming more and more important when brands are looking to work with you
Let your personality and voice shine through in your writing
It’s not about how many followers you have but if you can engage your readers
Charge between $10-25 for ad space no more and no less
Don’t clutter your blog with banner ads that don’t relate to your blog just for money this decreases the value of your blogs voice
Own your blog domain
Have Fun!

Great summary. Thanks for sharing your notes. I’ve always wondered how much to charge for ad space. Still not sure I want to clutter my blog with ads, but good FYI. And how cool you got to meet Karen.
