My Go-To TV Shows + Movies For Fashion Inspiration

Right now I’m really getting into 90s trends. I’m loving slinky barely there slip dresses and oversized blazers. I’ve also developed a hefty obsession with the barely there naked sandal. I even bought a headband and have been rocking a scrunchy around my chignon! I also love a good over the top piece. A skirt made completely of strawsign me up. A top that looks like it’s inflatedI’ll take two. Anything thats over the top and extra, I love it. When I get in a bit of a style rut or I want some fashion inspiration there are a few TV Shows and Movies that I go to that spark fashion joy in me. Read on to check out my Go-To TV Shows an Movies for fashion inspiration.

SEX AND THE CITY

Y’all knew this was gonna be first on the list. I have the entire series on DVD and revisit them often. I can pretty much recite any line from any episode. LOL. I’ve actually just started watching again for the hell of it and must say season 2-3 are the absolute best. Don’t debate me. I’m totally here for Carrie Bradshaw’s fashion. Samantha get’s an honorable mention for her accessories alone. I’ve always been a Carrie, mixing thrift and vintage with a pair of $600 shoes. There was a time when I had a ton of designer shoes and mostly a thrifted and vintage wardrobe! Don’t believe me, check out this super old Youtube Thrifting Series I did years ago! I’m also here for all the 90s fashion. I love Carrie’s style with her barely there form fitting dresses and Manolo Blahniks. I’d kill for her collection of baguettes and I’m not even a bag kinda girl!

BLACK-ISH

Yes, I’m here for all of Rainbow i.e. Tracee Ellis Ross’ wardrobe on the show. I even went online and found the famed Isabel Marant Jumpsuit she wore in an episode that centered around that she was wearing. I’m here for all of her makeup and hair styles too. Speaking of which and honorable mention goes to Grown-Ish and Yara Shahidi’s character Zoey. I’m mostly getting hair inspiration from her on this show.

KILLING EVE

This show is my new obsession because a huge chunk of it is set in Paris and it makes me nostalgic and because of the fashion! The main villain of the series is hired hit woman, Villanelle and she has THEE BEST WARDROBE OF ALL TIME. She is the perfect mixture of androgyny and over the top fashion. I watched every show excited to see what she was going to be wearing. I now own both seasons and refer back to them regularly for inspiration.[/one_half] [one_half_last padding=”0 0 0 15px”]

BROWN SUGAR
Y’all this is my favorite movie of all time and yes I have it on DVD! I was and still am OBSESSED with Sidney Shaw (Sanaa Lathan). When I need a 90s fashion fix I throw this movie on. I can practically close my eyes and see Sidney walking at night in front of the Flatiron building an ankle length coat that flowed as she walked. I NEEDED that damn coat and the jeans and the belt, hell the whole damn outfit.

BOOMERANG

Otherwise known as one of the top 3 romantic comedies of all time…EVER is another of my favorite movies. The fashion is undeniable. I wanted to be Jacqueline (Robin Givens) in all of her amazing suits and dresses! This movie was all about style and fashion in the early 90s and it’s amazing. If you’ve never seen it, we cannot be friends in real life.

Iā€™m a glamour girl. I love to watch movies as far back as the roaring twenties Sometimes I reimagine an outfit worn by Marlene Dietrich or Joan Crawford. I also love the fashion on Girlfriends, Living Single, etc.

Lately have swooned over every outfit of one of the main characters from friends from college on netflix. Whoever the wardrobe stylist is on that show is a genius
