I’m a New Yorker

IMG_8634

There is something kind of magical about living in a place like New York City. I’ve officially been here 10 years this month and I can now claim having my New York Card! I am officially a New Yorker. But I’ll never lose my southern charm, or my southern drawl or my love for southern men. It’s so very easy to get jaded here though. It’s easy to consume yourself with work and making it. Hell, that’s what this city is all about. It’s a city of career makers. For the past few weeks I have had so much fun rediscovering the city and creating deeper relationships with my friends. I even spent some time in Times Square and didn’t hate it. Probably because I was tipsy though, after having a few delicious cocktails at the Dark & Lovely Event last night for Curly Nikki’s new book (download it here for free) Hope you got a glimpse of the event on my snapchat: Monroesteele

It’s moments like last night, on a rooftop with champagne looking out over the city, that make me realize just how lucky I am to live here. I will however never really get used to the noise, the unlimited amounts of dog shit in Harlem, nor will I ever feel completely comfortable seeing a homeless person on the street. I remember when I was still in high school, sitting on the hood of my red Saturn Coup, under the stars and wondering what would happen after high school. I wanted out of my small town so badly. I wanted skyscrapers and adventure and to fall madly in love. I wanted fashion and to be inspired and a career. I’m happy to say I’ve experienced all those things and more since moving here 10 years ago. I’m not sure if this is the place I will live for the rest of my life, but the life I’ve lived here so far has been nothing less than everything I have dreamt of.  Any who, excuse me if I’ve been a little absent from blogging lately. Work is at an all time high and I’m busy trying to create the best damn bachelorette weekend for my BFF next month, as well as getting all the plans in order for my pilgrimage to Paris in September for Paris Fashion Week.

Oh, I’m thinking of doing a closet sale early August as well so stayed tuned for the deets on that.

xx

I don’t live in NY, but I’ve worked in the city for 7 years now. When I was in college back in Philly, working on my degree M-F and a fashion certificate on the weekends, NYC was ultimate goals. But now in my 30s, this city has worn me out, given me sinus problems and I’m over it. LOL. I love NYC but operation “Exit Strategy” has been in planning mode for months now. But congrats on being official now, you’re the real MVP.
