Happy Black History Month! This month is going to be all about highlighting Black Businesses I love and also sharing my knowledge on the business of being an entrepreneur. I’m never one for gatekeeping information and strongly believe the more you share, the more you grow and the better for us all, especially those who are a part of the Black community. So we’re going to kick off my first post of Black History Month sharing a few Black Owned Fashion Brands I’m loving and that I shopped the most last year. Make sure to bookmark and share this post and shop some of these businesses if you can!
I own a ton of pieces from Hanifa including the dress I’m wearing in these photos as well as this two piece set and this stunning purple number from her recent fashion show.
I have a few of Brandon Blackwood’s handbags and I’m already looking to add more to my collection. I have this denim bag and this white paisley number as well. I’m loving all of the exotic bags that recently came out as well.
Ndigo Studio burst on the scene last year with their colorful pleated designs and I’ve been hooked ever since. I bought their Alma dress and wore it during New Years Eve in New York City. Make sure to check out the vlog on my YouTube Channel here for a better look. I also included getting another piece from them in my 2022 Luxury Wishlist YouTube video.
This is my go-to brand for nostalgic vintage style tee shirts which images of all my favorite black musicians, movies and creatives. I have at least 8 of these tees and I love dressing them up with a pair of jeans, cut off shorts and the highest heel possible. They are super comfortable and get even better with each wash.
Ofcourse I may be a little bias because I have a collaboration line with Sonjia but I’v always loved her unique pieces. Her infamous Jame’s Paper Bag Waist Pants are what drew me in and I’ve kept spending my own coins to purchase her one of a kind pieces. My favorite has got to be these paper bag waist shorts and this stunning pencil skirt that I plan on wearing to New York Fashion Week this year. By the way we still have a few pieces on sale from our recent collaborations that you can purchase here while everything is 40% Off!
2021 was the year I bought my first Christopher John Rogers runway piece and I have since worn it for any special occasion I could including my birthday and for Art Basel in Miami Beach last year. I love the whimsy and drama that CJR brings to fashion. The designs really stand out in a sea of mundane cyclical fashion trends.
When I moved to Miami last year, I made sure to stock up on a few Andrea Iyamah bikinis to get me through the year. I love how playful and subtly sexy her designs are. I’m also looking into getting more of her ready to wear as I’m loving the silhouettes and fabrics of her dresses.
I actually stumbled across this brand via Instagram and could not stop thinking about their cool pleated denim pieces. I ordered these pants immediately and plan to wear them soon during New York Fashion Week.
Honorable Mentions
Although I haven’t purchased anything from Fe Noel recently anytime I wear this two piece blush linen set from the brand I get stopped and asked where its from. The quality of Fe Noel is unmatched and I plan to invest in a few more pieces this Spring to round out my summer wardrobe
I met Nakia last year while shooting the Fall Collection of Something By Sonjia x Monroe Steele and she was wearing this fly utility style belt. I fell involve with that belt and immediately asked were it was from and she told me it was her own design! Well she dropped the design in November and I’ve been hooked. I can’t wait until other colors come out so I can get more! See how I wore it here.
I don’t own any LaQuan Smith pieces yet but this designer is definitely on my radar and I will be adding something from his ultra cool and edgy collections soon. I’m looking forward to seeing what this designer does for the upcoming Fall 2022 New York Fashion Week.
Sam is such a sweetheart and I absolutely love her style. I attended her last fashion show at Omars Kitchen & Rum Bar in New York City last New York Fashion Week and can’t wait to get my hands on some of her pieces to rock while I’m living in Miami. Everyone from Gabrielle Union to Queen Beyonce has rocked her designs.
I’m looking forward to seeing what this new year brings in regards to Black Fashion Brands. Definitely drop any others not on this list that you’re planning or have shopped recently and you think I should check them out.
xx

Monroe: I am so proud of you and what you have accomplished. Your vlogs transport me to a life I wish I had created for myself when I was young. But being an older woman does not prevent me from thoroughly appreciating all of the hard work that you bring to everything you share with us. I’m looking forward to watching you right now. I wish you all of the best that life has to offer! Love, Mardji
Hi Monroe! Thanks for sharing these black owned businesses. I only knew about your collaboration line and Brandon Blackwood.
