Small business and even larger businesses are taking a hit because of the Corona Virus and cities shutting down non-essential businesses like they are here in New York City. I wanted to compile a list of my small businesses and online stores to shop at that are donating portions of profits to aide those in need at this time. I also wanted to include a few essential online shops that are still shipping things you may need during this time with little to no wait time for shipping. Amazon is having quite a time delivering essentials during this time so I wanted to give you all a few alternatives. If you are able to still shop and help the economy this list is a good place to start with many of my favorite fashion retailers having incredible sales right now. Please do feel free to add some of your favorite small businesses, sales and online shops who are donating portions of profits below in the comments.
A WORD ON HANDLING PACKAGES
I see a lot of fear around packages on social media and a lot of it is just misinformation. Yes, the Corona Virus can live on cardboard for up to 24 hours but most companies aren’t sending packages out within that time frame after placing your order. When you receive a package receive it with gloves. Don’t bring it past your entryway. Remove it’s contents and immediately dispose of the box outside your home in the designated recycling area. Remove your gloves and wash your hands before handling the contents of the box. If you don’t have access to gloves, follow the same steps, simply wash your hands for attest 20 seconds after disposing of the box. No need to fear packages. All package handlers are required to wear gloves at this time as well. There hasn’t been a packaged that I received in the past 2 weeks from Fedex, UPS or USPS where the handler wasn’t wearing gloves.
Uncommon Goods is another great website for simple essentials. I actually love using this website for gifts but they actually have a ton of things you can buy to get you through this tough time of social isolation. Their personal care category is chalk full of everything you need for a self care binge from CBD Menstrual Pain Reliever products to CBD Bath Bombs. They also have an array of calming teas and theres even a section for sexual wellness full of awesome vibrators. For kids they have tons of educational games as well as arts and crafts sets. If you’re in need of some delicious snacks and treats, they have those too.
The Laundress has really come through for me during this time. I have been hand washing my underwear for the past 2 weeks being that the laundromat on nearest to me is closed. I’ve been using The Delicate Wash detergent to hand wash my undergarments and let them air dry. Not only that they are still fully stocked with their All Purpose Cleaning Concentrate and Surface cleaner. They even have a Home Cleaning Kit currently on sale which features an All Purpose Bleach Alternative, Surface Cleaner, Glass and Mirror Cleaner and Scented Vinegar. They also have detergents for your clothing as well as dish detergent for your dishes. You can get 20% off by signing up for their newsletter. If you have a baby they also have detergents that are safe for babies clothing and you can get 20% off with code: BABY20. They also have a New Mom Kit. There’s Free Shipping on Orders over $50.
