7 Things I Wish I’d Invested In Sooner

I know what you’re thinking. You think this blog post is going to be about luxury bags, shoes and accessories. That couldn’t be further from the truth, although I do love a good Chanel Mule or pair of Chanel Pearl Earrings. Any luxury purchase is a good investment simply because you can always, ALWAYS, resell it on places like Tradesy, Poshmark and The Real Real. But, alas, I’ve gotten off subject. This post is going to break down all of the very adult things, I wish I would have invested in sooner. I’m 35 years old and although my body feels 25, there are certain comforts I never knew I needed in life until now. One being my environment and how important it is for my space to be inspiring yet calming. I still have furniture that I had when I lived in a dorm! YAFFA BLOCKS FOR GOODNESS SAKE. Y’all remember Yaffa Blocks — the easily buildable college dorm room furniture? Yes, I still have a stack in my bedroom after 10 years! It’s definitely time for my to upgrade my space but I’m taking it slowly. These things take time and money but I really wish I’d gotten hip to a lot of these things sooner. So don’t make the same mistake as me. If you haven’t invested in these things already, make a list and get started. You’ll thank me later.

Proper Bedding

My ex boyfriend taught me 2 things: the importance of amazing sheets and good coffee. Seriously he had us shopping for sheets every few months. It was exhausting but I never quite caught on. I never thought to spend hundreds of dollars on Egyptian Cotton with high thread counts and comforters. That is until I recently went to Miami. The bed I slept in was covered in thick soft sheets and a comforter that rocked my body into the deepest slumber ever. The same thing happened when I spent the night at The James New York. When I got back from vacation, I wanted to feel the same way so I went to Target. I spent $500 on bedding in the blink of an eye. I’m sleeping better than I ever have thanks to Flannel Fitted Sheets, Jersey Flat Sheets and a thick and cozy weighted comforter! Y’all I even have flannel pillow cases and yes it’s as amazing as it sounds. I love a jersey flat sheet because it just feels like a hug! Invest in your sheets, its worth it, I mean you sleep half your life right? Might as well do it well.

A Nespresso Machine

Now that I have one I don’t know how I ever lived without one. Yes, it’s that serious. I have a real relationship with my Nespresso. After about 4 years it stopped working and I just got this updated new one courtesy of the brand. I had been without one for 4 days and was losing my shit! My new Nespresso is a little sleeker but honestly, I can care less what it looks like, I just want my coffee! There’s nothing like the smell of coffee in your home in the morning to start your day. It’s also way more cost efficient than buying Starbucks everyday. It’s worth it. So buy it and yes the coffee is hot. I keep getting that question from Keurig drinkers (cough trash, cough).

Everything SimpleHuman

They weren’t lying when they said all their products are tools for efficient living! I mean it really is efficient. I have 2 SimpleHuman garbage cans, one for the kitchen and a small one for my bathroom. I even have a SimpleHuman plunger and yes it’s the bougiest plunger of all time but at least it’s cute. I’m eyeing their steel frame dishrack, their liquid sensor pump and the tension shower caddy since my old one has seen better days.

A Blue Apron Meal Subscription

I order a lot of food. Thanks Seamless and Uber Eats but by doing so I really wasn’t eating healthy and it took a toll on my body and stamina. I decided I needed to make time for meals and what better way than getting a box of fresh produce and food delivered every week. The subscription is $60 a week and you get 6 meals (3 meals for 2 people). It saves me a ton of money being that I was ordering twice that amount in a weeks time with food deliveries. It also forces me to actually cook and take that time to just relax. I find cooking very relaxing and I love learning new recipes. I consider cooking my me time when my mind is free from all the other stressors of the day. I also get a healthy delicious meal at the end. I love that I can cancel weeks if I’m going on vacation or just not up to it as well. There’s no fee associated with skipping weeks either. They also have amazing consumer service if you should have a problem with a delivery.

A Humidifier

The older I get, the more delicate my body gets. Every Fall & Winter when the landlords turn the heat on and raises it to Hell, I get nosebleeds when I sleep. It is not cute. Especially on my $500 worth of sheets. Thus, I’ve invested in a good humidifier that I run mostly at night when I sleep. It has helped me tremendously with my nose bleeds and helped to keep my nostrils nice and moisturized during the night. I also just feel better in general when I run my humidifier.

My Home Office + Space

I’m aware that we don’t all work from home but my space needed a face lift. I needed a place to feel productive and inspired to do work. Investing in my cloffice, that I built at IKEA was probably the best thing I could have ever done when I made the leap to being a Full-Time Blogger. It was also great for my taxes. I enjoy that there’s a space dedicated to creativity and work and that it’s out of sight from the rest of my apartment. I can leave my work in there and not have to worry about carrying it throughout my home. Even if you don’t work from home, your home is a sanctuary. It should feel warm, cozy and inviting. You can never go wrong investing in the aesthetics of your space. I do that for the rest of my home by incorporating greenery. I love plants and I like to feel peaceful. Plants do that for me while providing fresh oxygen and giving me extra purpose. I love watering them and seeing that I can help something to grow and thrive.

Durable Luggage

I do a lot of traveling and I need very sturdy yet stylish luggage. One of my best buys was investing in a luggage set from Calpak. I love their suitcases and my marble set has gotten me through years of travel from Paris to Mexico to Bermuda and California. It was $250 very well spent. I’d definitely recommend Calpak for all your luggage needs. If you can find the marble set, get that one because it’s rare that someone else on your flight will have that bag, making it super easy to spot.

A great list !!! I would piggyback on the bedding and add good towels to the list . Makes bathtime more spa-like .
Umm….. I might have to break down and get Nespresso!!! I frugaltalked myself out of it and got the family a Keurig . Was just eyeballing them at the mall last night … will add to Birthday/ Holiday wishlist .
And Blueapron is life !!! Nice to have different dishes to look forward to and less waste since you get exactly what you need , which is nice especially for those random ingredients .

A weighted blanket and dish drainer from SimpleHuman we’re already on my list. An air purifier and trash receptacle like the one you purchased have made my life better.

hello! How can one expect to have ‘sweet dreams’ and not be sleeping right?!? jk but Im totally with you on investing in good bedding. My grandmother taught me that as an early adult lol…luggage is another one. Im a stickler for investing in luggage. Which can be pricey, that’s why I shop around during holiday sales (black Friday) for a great set!
Thanks for curating such factual list!

I waived on getting a set of le creuset pots but it’s the best investment I’ve made in a while! Yes they’re pricey but I’ll have them forever and I taste the difference in my cooking!

Girl! I second and third that bedding honey!! My home environment is ESSENTIAL to my mental and physical health so I’m all about investing in that area. A few things I would absolutely recommend investing in: cookware (my copper pots, cast iron pots and Le Creuset are a must), linen bedding, satin pillowcase (sleep on it every night. It’s so good for hair and skin), a beautiful set of serverware for entertaining, a signature scent (Dior & LeLabo for me) a good mattress.

I actually really loved this list! I am working on buying a new mattress, bedding, and other home decor items. The issue has honestly been money. I finally realized that if I want to upgrade my lifestyle, I have to start generating more income. Then I can use that money to give me access to the things I want. So it’s make money then I will finally be able to ink the life I’ve always wanted. Thanks for sharing!
