Today I had the honor of attending the Seventh Annual Supima Design Competition at New York Fashion Week Lincoln Center. Supima is America’s luxury cotton founded in 1954 and designers clamor to use it for their designs given its ultra soft quality. In 2008 Supima began an annual design competition to give up and coming designers a place to showcase their talent. For this competition 6 of America’s top design schools were asked to picked one finalist who was in their graduating year, who’d then compete for the 10K prize in the Supima design challenge and show at NYFW.
This year’s six finalists: Jenny Hoang from Academy of Art University; David Lee from Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising; Ou Ma from Fashion Institute of Technology; Anastasia Iafrate from Kent State University; Sharon Moon from Rhode Island School of Design; and Yuxi Bi from Savannah College of Art and Design.
The finalist were asked to design an evening wear collection utilizing the Supima brand. Each designer put together a 5 piece collection. Coco Rocha was the host of the event and she always looks magnificent. Here are a few of my favorites from the collections.

In the end the winner was Anastasia Lafrate from Kent State University. Here she stands next to Coco Rocha and her Supima collection!
This show was definitely a great show and for a good cause as well. I even saw my fashion fairy God mother Natalie Joos in front row looking effortlessly chic and fabulous next to Bryan Boy and Phil Oh (Mr. Street Peeper). I also ran into a few fashion blogger friends I haven’t ever met…(just through twitter and instagram lol). It’s always kinda funny meeting people in real life after feeling like you’ve known them already.
