48 Hours in Miami

After an amazing 5 Days in Bermuda with Kristin White and all the lovely ladies who came on the Bermuda Trip, I hopped on a plane and headed to Miami. It was a last minute work trip but more than that it was my solo vacation for the year. It’s been a while since I’ve taken a solo trip. The last time was over 6 years ago when I took a 2 week Eat, Pray, Love trip to Paris and fell in love with that city. My then boyfriend was in Algeria at the time and although we talked everyday it was really nice to be on my own discovering a new city. If you are ever looking to take a solo trip or get your feet wet with solo travel, starting some place well oiled like Miami, is a great place to start. This was my 4th time to Miami. I’d come previously for Miami Carnival in 2018 and for past birthdays. I love the energy of Miami. It’s a lot like New York but with better views and better weather. Here’s everything you need to know if you have 48 Hours in Miami.

WHERE TO STAY

South Beach — If you are looking to party and pay a ton of money for mediocre food and listen to rave music all night long, stay in South Beach. Anywhere from 15th Street to 5th Ave between Collins and Ocean Drive, will do. You’ll be right on the beach and on the strip and there’s tons to do and see but it comes at a premium.

Domio in Downtown Miami — I knew I wanted the proximity to the beach without the noise and outrageous prices for mediocre food and drinks so this trip I stayed in Downtown Miami. I prefer this area because its quiet and has amazing views and way better shopping than Lincoln Road. It’s also just a 10 minute $8 Uber ride to South Beach. I opted for a Domio in Downtown Miami. The apartment was absolutely stunning in a brand new building. It was bright and airy with amazing lighting and decor and a huge balcony for me to relax on. The amenities were stellar too. There’s a pool area with cabanas, a gym and a common room with pool tables, an industrial coffee maker and sleek televisions. I also love how affordable Domio’s are! Make sure to check them out for your next Miami trip. They also have them coming to all major US cities and the process was seamless. They are currently having a 15% Off Miami Deal with Code: MIAMI15 for 15% Off.

WHERE TO EAT + DRINK

Yardbird Southern Table + Bar 1600 Lennox Ave — Every time I’m in Miami I make it my business to eat at Yardbird. It’s a lovely place with indoor/outdoor seating with a rustic decor. THE FOOD…..my God. The food is some of the best I’ve ever had. Yes, they have all the southern basics like chicken and waffles but skip that and head for the Shrimp & Grits. Their’s is hands down the best I’ve ever had and I’m a Shrimp & Grits snob, so trust me. Also…deviled eggs whipped to perfection. Yes! Get an order of those too and don’t forget to get a cocktail. The Iced Tea one is delicious and you’ll be walking the 2 blocks to Lincoln Road Mall tipsy and full.

Sugar 788 Brickell Plaza #40 at East Hotel Rooftop — My girl Ria Michelle took me here for dinner and drinks on my last full night in Miami and I’m so glad she did. This rooftop is laid back and stunning. The views were unparalleled and the drinks were delicious. It’s a very sophisticated yet chilled atmosphere with an Asian vibe. I had a white wine and an order of rock shrimp and it was divine.

Market at the Edition Miami Beach Hotel 2901 Collins Ave — I had an amazing lunch here as well during my 48 Hour Stay. This is one of the hotels I’d recommend if you want to stay close to the beach but still have a bit of peace, quiet and seclusion. From the time I stepped out of my Uber and onto this property I was treated like royalty. We sat outside in a perfectly instagramable space and dined on copious fresh Bellini’s, house-made breads and an assortment of delicious food. The food and the service were stellar from start to finish and I’d recommend this place for a nice lunch.

WHERE TO SHOP

Bal Habour Shops — Skip Lincoln Road and spring for a $20 Uber to Bal Habour Shops in North Miami. Trust me the stunning open air mall with amazing restaurants and designer stores is worth the trip. This is where the very rich aunties come to shop. I loved their Neiman Marcus and it certainly rivaled 5th Avenue in New York City. If you are looking for luxury or you just need a little inspiration definitely check out this mall.

Brickell City Centre — I loved how close my Domio in Downtown Miami was to this shopping center. It’s such a beautiful construction and I see why it cost 1 billion dollars! It’s a beautiful outdoor/indoor design and also houses East Hotel which has the rooftop Bar, Sugar, that I spoke about earlier.

WHAT TO WEAR

Miami is hot. I absolutely love the predictability of the weather although it does rain every now and again. It’s also pretty humid so when packing think about sun protection like huge hats and sunglasses. Don’t forget the sunscreen! I’d go for light fabrics like linen tops and dresses. You will do some walking too so a great flat sandal or sneaker will come in handy. The nightlife in Miami is top notch so you’ll definitely want to bring some freakum dresses or more posh dresses for upscale restaurants. Oh and of course, pack every swimsuit you’ve longed to stunt in. I love a good one piece with tummy control. To make your legs glisten, Kopari Organic Coconut Melt is the key.

What are some of your favorites places in Miami? I’m heading back in a few months and would love your recommendations!

xx

Love your blog & vlog!! I currently live in Miami. You should definitely come visit around Art Basel (December). Stop and explore Art Africa during that wknd. Everyday People will host an event during that wknd in Wynwood.
Edition has a club called, The Basement! It has a bowling alley and ice skate rink!!! One of my fav spots in Miami! Another restaurant that I adore for atmosphere and vibes is Nikki Beach. So glad you enjoyed your stay and keep doing what you’re doing!
