30 Things Getting Me Through Self Isolation

After spending a full month in my apartment and literally only spending a total of about 5 hours outdoors the last month, I’ve adapted some coping mechanisms. I thought I’d share the 30 things that are getting me through this time of self and social isolation. From songs, to movies, to books and self care and even the websites that have been getting all my moneys thanks to the millions of amazing sales, I got you covered. Read on to find out the 30 things that have been getting me through and feel free to add yours below in the comments!

5 ONLINE SHOPS + SALES GETTING ALL MY COINS

I don’t think I’ve ever done so much shopping. I’ve spent this last month indoors redecorating my bedroom so I’ve been scouring furniture and home decor stores online. I’ve also been checking out all of the amazing sales going on and buying fashions for my upcoming birthday and for all the trips I’m going to take when the world goes back to normal. Here’s where I’ve been shopping.

Wayfair: I dropped some major coins buying home decor items for my bedroom. I got this cool velvet chair, this painting, this faux cowhide rug and this mirror

H&M Home: I also got a few home decor items from H&M home. This was my first time shopping at H&M home and I love their products from modern vases, to their cool wall art and picture perfect baskets

Farfetch 25% Off Sale: Farfetch is helping their many boutiques by reducing their hosting by 25% so those who sell online via their platform can bounce back from decreased sales during this pandemic. They are also offering 25% off sales across the website including Jacquemus, Zimmermann, Mara Hoffman & Self Portrait

Moda Operandi 30% Off Sale with code: BEST30 Moda Operandi is one of my favorite places to shop for designer pieces that haven’t hit the market yet. They do a lot of trunk shows where you can purchase designer items before they come out and be the first to get them when they come in stock. The best thing about it is you only pay for half upfront and the other half when the item ships. They have some amazing brands on sale from Jacquemus to Cult Gaia.

Luisaviaroma 25% Off New Spring + Summer Sale CODE: S25: I already stocked up on a few summer dresses and my favorite Hunza G. Crinkle Swimwear.

5 MOVIES

The Book of Eli: This is one of my favorite movies of all time and it some ways it gives me hope in regards to everything going on in the world right now.

Sex and the City: I watch this movie (I and II) to get my fashion fix. If I need some fashion inspiration these are my go-to films.

Brown Sugar: Is my favorite movies of all time. It’s essentially the Black Version of SATC and I love everything about this movie from the fashion to the music. It’s one of the movies that made me want to move to New York City. This movie catches the vibe of the city like no other movie.

Drive: This movie is a little nuts but I love this movie for the soundtrack. A lot of my favorite songs came out of this movie.

Boomerang: Another classic movie full of laughs. If I just want to feel good, I put this movie on. Yes, I have it on DVD.

5 SELF CARE PRODUCTS

It’s no secret that I’m probably going to self-care my way through this self isolation. Thank goodness I have a little rainy day fund because I needed to stock up on some of my favorite things from skincare to self-care.

Byredo Bohemia Candles: I stocked up on a few more candles since I burned them all out in the last few weeks. Luckily, Byrdeo offers a free mini candle and 2 free tester scents when ordering online. Candles are definitely a part of my self care and just make me feel good.

Hyper Clear Vitamin C Serum: When I come out of self isolation, I’m gonna be the finest I’ve ever been thanks to this Vitamin C Serum that I’ve been using. It’s been doing wonders for my hyperpigmentation. I’ve raved about the brand so much that they reached out and now I’m an ambassador! Use my CODE: monroe15 for 15% Off your order. Oh and it’s a black owned skin care brand!

Eucalyptus Oil: I’ve been taking super revitalizing and relaxing showers to help with my anxiety. I take a wash cloth and dabble a few drops of Eucalyptus oil on it and drape it over the shower head. The steam from the shower activates the oil and it’s so amazing. I look forward to relaxing in my shower every day and it’s definitely helped with my sinuses and anxiety.

CBD Oil: Speaking of anxiety, I’ve been utilizing my sublingual CBD Oil regularly and also using my CBD Cream to ease my menstrual cramps. I love CBD products and if you haven’t tried them start here. Uncommon Goods has a plethora of wonderful CBD products.

Red Wine: Thank goodness the liquor store is considered essential because I’m not sure how I’d fair through this isolation without a delicious cup of Barefoot Merlot every other day.

5 BOOKS

I’ve definitely been doing a lot more reading during this time and since I’m really trying to level up my business and mindset, a lot of my books revolve around that. But I’ve also had the time to re-read some of my favorite books of all time. Here’s what I’ve been reading:

You’re A Badass A Making Money By Jen Sincero

Barracoon by Zora Neale Hurston

Nefertiti by Michelle Moran

The Kinfolk Entrepreneur

The Book of Night Women by Marlon James

But in no particular order here are the songs that I have on repeat to put me in a good mood and get me moving around my apartment.

Nefertiti was such a GREAT BOOK!!!! OMG, I love Egyptian Historical Fiction. Nefertiti: The Book of the Dead (Rahotep Series) by Nick Drake is also really good too and it has two more books in the series.
