Everything You Need To Know About New York Fashion Week #NYFW

New York Fashion Week or NYFW for short starts next week! It’s from February 6-12th and I for one am hella excited about it after watching all the Paris Mens Shows! I just dropped a corresponding YouTube Video to this blog post so make sure to check that out here and give it a thumbs up! For those interested the New York Fashion Week schedule can be found here. For those who aren’t familiar with fashion week in New York City it happens twice a year in February for the Fall Collections and in September for the Spring Collections. Thus, this February 2020 designers will be showing their Fall 2020 Collections and in September 2020 designers will be showing their Spring 2021 Collections. It can be a little hard to figure out the seasons but just keep that in mind to keep you straight. The clothing that will be shown this February will usually be available in August/September of this year! So if you watch the shows, whether online or in person you get a glimpse of the trends that will hit the streets 6 months from now! If you’ve ever wanted to attend New York Fashion Week, here are a few things you need to know.

HOW TO GET INTO NYFW

I just created an entire YouTube Video on how to get invited to New York Fashion Week or any fashion week for that matter. Make sure to check that video out here if you’re interested. I also created a Pitch Template Letter specifically for Fashion Week and it teaches you how to get invitations to fashion shows and a lot of other in depth tips for not on New York Fashion Week but all fashion weeks including Paris, Milan and London. You can check out the Pitch Template for New York Fashion Week here in my etsy shop.

How To Get Into NYFW Without Being In Fashion

NYFW now offers Fashion Show experiences for those willing to pay for those experiences. This is probably the first time paying to attend a bonafide NYFW show has ever happened. Perhaps the whole system has fallen on hard times. According to vogue.com a fashion show can cost anywhere from $125K to $300K and having a few pay for play seats probably does hurt. Anywho, yes you can pay to attend fashion week now. If I wasn’t actually in fashion and this was an experience I’ve always wanted to be a part of I’d most certainly pay to do it at least once. Some brands such as Monse, Cynthia Rowley and Rag & Bone are offering seats to their shows started a $500-$1500. Packages include the Silver Experience, Gold Experience and Platinum experience which can include: A Seat to the Fashion Show, an Exclusive Gift, dedicated VIP Concierge, a private styling consultation and after party tickets. You can check out all of the NYFW Experiences here

How To Get Invites If You Work In Fashion

You do need to be in fashion or fashion adjacent to even be considered for an invite if you don’t personally know the designer or someone handling PR for that designer. If you are in the industry somehow as a writer, stylist, fashion blogger, fashion influencer, fashion related business owner etc. then you have a shot of getting an invite but first you have to ask! Yes, you have to request an invite to a fashion show. Just send a show request email to the public relations firm who handles the designer or to the in house press for the designer who’s show you want to attend. WHAT’S IT LIKE INSIDE A FASHION SHOW

If you love fashion, there’s nothing like being at a fashion show. It’s a feeling I will never get tired of no matter how many shows I attend. Everyone is excited to see what’s going to come down that runway. You can feel the music vibrate through your bones. It’s a magical and whimsical orchestra of sound and color and fabric and beauty. Yes, and it usually last about 13 minutes. I know, it’s super quick but wow if it doesn’t leave you thrilled. I’ve taken a lot of video from backstage as fashion shows and during the actual show so if you wanna see what it’s like definitely check out my Fashion Week Videos on my YouTube Channel. If you ever have the chance to experience a fashion show…do it! You wont regret it. Even just seeing what everyone is wearing to the shows is super inspiring. I always get a create jolt of energy after fashion week. Oh and definitely watch the shows online too if you can!

Where the Fashion Shows Take Place

Many of the shows take place downtown in meatpacking or soho so if you’re looking for a hotel or Airbnb those are the places to pick. Usually anything from 14th street to Canal street will do. Many of the shows happen at Spring Studios which is at 50 Varick Street and very close to the A, C, E and 1 train stops along Canal Street. Many shows also take place at 875 Washington Street or Industria right around the corner. A few shows also take place at Chelsea Piers on the West Side. For the most part those are the Big 3 but in addition to those spaces many designer have their shows off venue. Designers are branching and moving either to South Street Seaport or in the mid to upper 20’s in Chelsea on the west side. Thus you can really be running all around for shows.

WHERE TO FIND FASHION SHOW CONTENT

The Fashion Shows

The NYFW.com website usually has video of all the shows taken place on the official NYFW calendar. You can watch all the shows there but you can also check out the designers instagrams too! Many of the designers Live Stream their shows on Instagram Live and usually save it as a highlight or upload it as an IGTV video. That’s how I watched the most recent Jacquemus show during Mens Fashion Week in Paris. Additionally you can check out the designers websites. Within a few days they usually put up a video of their show. If you are looking for images I always go to vogue.com. They are excellent with uploading photos from all the collections.

The Streetstyle at New York Fashion Week

If you wanna see the street style there are a few places you can get the tea. My favorites include TeenVogue.com they always do a great job of showing everyone’s style no matter the shape, size or color. You cal also head to vogue.com, essence.com, and elle.com for more New York Fashion Week Streetstyle.
