If you watch my Instastories (which you definitely should), you’d know that 90% off the time I’m instastorying especially on the weekend, you can find me in a house dress. I used to believe that house dresses were only a southern thing, but my DMs have convinced me otherwise. They may be called different things, within different cultures, but basically a house dress is a dress that you wear only or mostly around the house. I rarely, if ever, wear my house dresses outside my home. I don’t know why. I guess because most of them are a little revealing or low cut or I just like the comfort of wearing them at home. It’s a ritual for me to come home, take off my dirty work clothes, shower and put on a very comfortable house dress. I like my house dresses to have a some style. If friends come over to hang out or I have a gentleman caller, no need to get super dressed up. I just stay in my house dress.
95% of my house dresses are black. I’m not sure why I gravitate to black, I just do. Can you believe I also only buy black underwear? Yes, all of my bra’s and panties are BLACK (with the exception of a few period panties and some red lingerie). I feel sexy, relaxed and comfortable in black. One of the most common questions in my DMs on Instastories is where I buy my housedresses. I don’t have a particular place. I just know a house dress when I see it. But here are some great options & online shops for finding the house dress of your dreams. I actually counted today and I have 10 house dresses with 5 in heavy rotation depending on if it’s Spring/Summer or Fall/Winter.
Long Sleeve House Dresses (For Fall/Winter)
Body Hugging House Dresses
Silky Slip dresses that can be worn in or outdoors
Mini House Dresses
I don’t go out looking for house dresses, they just end up becoming house dresses. My all time favorite long sleeve button up, off the shoulder house dress is from The Line by K. They don’t even make the dress anymore but here is a very similar option. My silk dress by KES is also another favorite with is ultra skinny straps and flared hem. It’s pretty pricy but some more affordable silk dress options can be found here at The Real Real (so many Wang & Helmut Lang options too!). I also get a fair amount of my barely there tiney tiny house dresses from Urban Outfitters. But really a house dress is just whatever you feel comfortable wearing around your home and perhaps to bed as well.
