A New York Week in my Shoes

This week has been pretty eventful. I started my interviews for Fashion Steele Magazine this past Sunday. I wore my Attico Mules which are currently on sale while traipsing around Brooklyn. I finally met and interviewed two of my favorites. Amanda Murray, who I simply refer to as Fashion Queen and Ericka Hart who inspires me with her intellect and passion for speaking out on the issues concerning Black folk as well as sex and gender education. These two interviews just affirmed why I started Fashion Steele Magazine. I want to tell stories and talk about the issues that are important to me. Sometimes that’s fashion and sometimes that’s gentrification. I’ve started working on the magazine early this year because last year I definitely started too late and ended up stressing myself out. Literally, I looked at my computer screen so much, I ended up needed reading glasses after I found out my left eye doesn’t dilate as quickly as my right eye. Yes, I have a lazy eye.

[one_half padding=”0 15px 0 0″]Anywho in addition to interviewing this past weekend, I found the perfect polka dot dress. If you know me, you know I never wear polka dots. I don’t know it’s just a print I’ve never really been into. But hanging out with Rose and seeing Krystal in tons of polka dots made me change my tune. So when I saw this beauty and it was on sale I snatched it up. I’m so glad I did too because it fits like a dream! Speaking of dreams, I had a pretty horrible day on Tuesday. On Tuesday I wore my regular smegular work shoes, my trusty Tom’s.  Everything that went wrong did and I suspect it was because Mercury is in Retrograde. Yes, I’m a believer thanks to Susan Miller and her epic monthly horoscope reads. Anywho, Tuesday night I had a wonderful dream in which my Grandmother visited me and I lived in a fly mansion.[/one_half][one_half_last padding=”0 0 0 15px”]I woke up feeling awesome and have kept that positive attitude the rest of this week. Is it weird that this isn’t the first time I’ve dreamt of living in this mansion? I’ve dreamt of it at least 3 times within the last year. I know exactly how it looks, the view from each window, everything. I keep The Dream Dictionary A-Z Dream book on my nightstand and love reading about the symbolic meaning of dreams first thing in the morning (when I remember them). I think it also helped that I saged my entire apartment and myself to cleanse my space. I need to back track, because on Monday I attended an event at Woodpecker by David Burke’s restaurant in midtown.  It was a swanky crowd so I wore my Chanel Pearl Mules. All I can say is, it was a vibe. If you’re looking for a sexy, low lit spot for a date with fantastic almost orgasmic food then this is where you need to be. Thank me later.[/one_half_last]

[one_half padding=”0 15px 0 0″]By Wednesday my luck started looking up because I got my September Issues! By the way if you’ve never watched the documentary The September Issue, go do that now. Beyonce is covering Vogue Magazine and Lupita is covering Porter Magazine. What a time to be alive! So many black faces on the covers of the most anticipated issues of the year! Don’t let these covers fool you though. Black is the wave. These publishers know what they’re doing and are capitalizing off blackness and black buying power to sell these issues. Please hold them accountable after September. They need to hire people of color, specifically Black men and women. That’s where the real works begins.[/one_half][one_half_last padding=”0 0 0 15px”]I got my issue of Vogue here from Amazon and it came with their collectors item box which I adore. On Wednesday, my new dress from the Creature’s of Comfort sale finally arrived as well. Speaking of dresses, since Labor Day is coming up and there will be tons of All White Parties check out this site and this site for the best white dresses! Anywho, I’ll probably take this dress with me to Paris for Paris Fashion Week. A lot of people ask me if my pitch letters work and I can say 100% that they do. I just landed my first compensated hotel stay for this upcoming Paris Fashion Week using the same pitch I include in the package. If you haven’t gotten yours yet, use Code: IGTV for 25% off.[/one_half_last]

If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen that I saw nearly a million patients that day. Wednesday’s are my long days so I wore my comfortable Nike’s. It wasn’t quite a million patient’s but it certainly felt like it and it forced this post to be delayed by a day.  I was just too tired to finish it Wednesday evening. Sometimes I think people forget just how hard it is to juggle a 9-5 or in my case a 9-7 and still be very much committed to a passion (this blog) and seeing it through. Sometimes, you gotta throw on a face mask, sit back and relax, listen to a bunch of Hoodrat to Headwrap podcasts, two strand twist your fro with Creme of Nature Twisting Cream, light your favorite Byredo candle, kick your bare feet up and just do nothing. Which is currently what I’m doing. Thank goodness I no longer work on Fridays. I’m resting up today because tomorrow I’m headed to the Hamptons and I know I’ll need all the energy I can muster. Follow along on my Instastories.
