Beachwear as Daywear

IMG_0694

So this isn’t my first time resorting to beachwear as daywear (see what I did there, RESORTing)! Ha. I crack myself up. But it was 90 degrees all weekend and I knew I was attending the South n’ the City picnic on Governor’s Island. I needed a cute look but also one that was functional for what was sure to be a day in the brutally hot sun, whilst drinking Chandon Rosé and swag surfing with melanin gifted millennials. So I went to my go to, which is wearing swimwear as actual daywear. I picked up this yellow bathing suit at a little trendy shop in Soho for about $30 intending to wear it to the beach. When I found out the color for the event was yellow, I decided to kill two birds with one stone. The best thing about wearing swimwear as daywear is that you can sweat in it to death and it holds up well without showing perspiration marks. There’s also the added bonus of built-in underwear! And once it’s all disgusting and gross drenched in sweat, once you get home, you can just rip it off and throw it in some soapy water to hand wash it.

GET THE LOOK

There is something about resort wear looks that speak to me and I love being able to work in a piece that wouldn’t normally be worn in this type of setting. A bathing suit for a picnic! And I can’t even tell you how many people asked me where I got this “top” from! It worked like a charm given that it was so hot and I spent a lot of time snapping my fingers and two stepping along with wobbling and whinning my waist. I also have a new little trick for keeping my hair out of the way too. When it’s this hot and muggy my hair always shrinks and products start to slide down my face, which is not the business. I’ve taken to wrapping my hair up in a scarf and popping a hat on top for protection from the sun. The scarf keeps my hair intact underneath (sometimes in a protective style like two strand twist), while also keeping product from running down my face! It’s a win win and it looks really chic too. This hat was a find from the & Other Stories sale currently going on.

Another must have for any kind of summer picnic or outdoor event is one of these paper parasols. They are fun and fashionable but in addition to being wonderful props for instagram boomerangs they actually do work in shielding you from the harsh UV rays of the sun. I have a little video coming up soon of the South n’ the City picnic which was a blast! I hope you had a chance to catch it on my Instastories. In the meantime head on over to my Youtube where I’ll be posting videos of all the events I’m attending this summer in New York City!
