You all know how much I love a good Aussie brand, such as Zimmermann and Dion Lee (who both showed at New York Fashion Week and had stunning collections). While perusing the sales at Revolve Clothing, I cam across this lovely white open back sweater and it was then I discovered Asilio, a unique Aussie brand that embodies clean and modern design with a twist. While looking through their website I stumbled across this skirt and my heart skipped a beat. I had to have it, more importantly I instantly knew I needed it for a laid back day look for New York Fashion Week. Luckily it came just in time, and was my New York Fashion Week Day 3 look for a day of Fashion week events.

I’m so glad that a portion of fashion week events took place in my favorite neighborhood in Brooklyn..DUMBO! I love the Brooklyn water front and shops and the stunning views of the Manhattan Bridge. I’m there quite often with my boyfriend checking out the goodies in West Elm Market, furniture and thrift stores. The first event of the day was Brunch with Dark & Lovely at the ultra eclectic Superfine restaurant. I’d passed by it dozens of times and yet never knew it existed! I love the name too and it was quite fitting since we were all dressed to kill for the Essence Street Style Block Party just right around the corner. It was a great time of socializing, eating, drinking, making connections and laughing. Christina of Love Brown Sugar was there as well as super natural hair and beauty editor Jenel of Kinky Coily Me. The brunch was a blast, I always have a great time with the Dark & Lovely crew. After the brunch Jen and I bypassed the block party for a bit to head down to my favorite street in Dumbo to take our photos of the day. This street never ceases to amaze me and though I’ve stood on it dozens of times I can’t help but be amazed that I live in such an awesome city every time I’m there. The view of the Manhattan bridge at the end of a lovely cobble stone street filled with beautiful architecture left and right, leaves me blissful and giddy.

After shooting Jen and I made our way over to the Essence Street Style Block Party! It was filled to the brim with great fashion and black girl and boy magic! The outfits alone stirred my creative juices and I came away inspired with new outfit ideas. We also stopped by the local shops and checked out a few vendors and am definitely going back to make a few purchases. We then headed back to the city for Harlem’s Fashion Row Shop and Socialize Event at the Norwood in Chelsea. It was my first time being in that venue and it’s basically a 5 story townhouse with a back yard to boot. It was beautifully decorated and chalk full of vendors, designers, excellent art and food. After snap chatting my life away (monroesteele), we headed to the Reward Style annual Fashion Week Party for a bit. It was great catching up with blogger buds Kela and Jessica. And in true form I walked 8 blocks to doughnut plat and bought myself some doughnuts before heading home.

Keep up with my antics on twitter, instagram and snatchat (monroesteele)

xx
